After treatment — Bed Bugs

Treatment doesn't end when the technician leaves. What you do over the next 3 weeks largely determines success.

Bed Bugs
Re-entry: 4 to 6 hours
Full result: 2 to 6 weeks depending on the infestation

What happens, day by day

Understanding the timeline avoids needless worry — and tells you when something is genuinely wrong.

  1. 0–6 h

    Returning home

Wait out the re-entry delay, then ventilate for 30 minutes with windows open before settling back in.

  2. 24–72 h

    First effects

You will see dead bed bugs. Residual activity is normal: some emerge from hiding on contact with the product.

  3. 1–2 weeks

    Eggs hatching

Unreached eggs hatch. Young bugs contact the residual product and die — which is why you must not clean.

  4. 2–3 weeks

    Follow-up

A follow-up inspection checks whether any activity remains. The barrier is still active at this stage: bugs that hatched since the intervention encounter it in turn, which resolves most files in a single intervention. If activity persists, we come back at no charge under the written guarantee.

  5. 4–6 weeks

    Elimination confirmed

No new bites and no fresh traces on bedding: the infestation is under control.

What to do in the first 48 hours

  1. 1

Ventilate the home for 30 minutes on your return, windows open.

  2. 2

Wash only food-contact surfaces (counters, table) — never baseboards or the area around the bed.

  3. 3

Put back clean bedding washed at 60 °C and install certified bed bug encasements on the mattress and box spring.

  4. 4

Keep sleeping in your usual bed: your presence draws remaining bugs toward the treated areas.

⚠️

What you must not do

  • Do not wash, scrub or mop baseboards and treated areas for at least 14 days.
  • Do not switch bedrooms or sleep on the couch: you would move the infestation to an untreated room.
  • Do not apply any store-bought insecticide over the professional treatment.
  • Don't skip the follow-up inspection: it confirms elimination and closes the file.

😌This is normal

  • Seeing a few bed bugs, alive or dead, for 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Possible new bites during the first 7 to 10 days.
  • A faint product odour for 24 to 48 hours.

📞Call us back if…

  • New and numerous bites after 3 weeks.
  • Live, active bed bugs after the follow-up inspection.
  • Fresh black spotting on sheets beyond 3 weeks.
  • Bed bugs appearing in a room previously unaffected.

Preventing a return

A successful treatment eliminates the current infestation. These habits prevent the next one.

  • Keep the encasements in place for at least 12 months.
  • When travelling: inspect the mattress and headboard, keep luggage elevated, wash everything on return.
  • Thoroughly inspect any second-hand furniture or mattress before bringing it home.
  • In a building, report any suspicion to the manager quickly for coordinated treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long before I stop seeing bed bugs?
Activity drops sharply within 1 to 2 weeks. Complete elimination takes 2 to 6 weeks depending on the infestation level: the time it takes for the eggs present on the day to hatch. No product reaches them directly, but the barrier stays active for weeks and the young encounter it as they emerge — which is what resolves most files in a single intervention.
Can I wash my sheets after bed bug treatment?
Yes, sheets and clothing can and should be washed normally at high heat. What you must not wash are the treated surfaces: baseboards, bed frame, the perimeter of the room. The residual product must stay active there for at least 14 days.
Why am I still getting bitten after treatment?
This is common during the first 7 to 10 days: bugs exposed to the product stay active for a few days before dying. If bites remain frequent beyond 3 weeks or after the follow-up inspection, contact us — your written guarantee covers a return visit.
