Preparation Steps

  1. 1

Remove all bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows, mattress covers) and place them in sealed plastic bags. Wash everything in hot water (60°C minimum) and dry on high heat for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

Completely empty dressers, nightstands and closets located in infested bedrooms. Place clothing in sealed plastic bags after washing and drying on high heat.

  3. 3

Vacuum thoroughly on mattresses (all seams), box springs, bed frame, baseboards and floors in every affected room. Immediately dispose of the vacuum bag in a sealed garbage bag outside.

  4. 4

Move all furniture at least 30 cm (1 foot) away from walls to allow the technician access to baseboards and corners. Disassemble the bed frame if possible.

  5. 5

Remove frames, mirrors, clocks and wall decorations in affected rooms. Bed bugs can hide behind these items.

  6. 6

Remove outlet and light switch covers if you are comfortable doing so. Bed bugs frequently nest in these spaces.

  7. 7

Seal all personal items (books, toys, electronics) in the treated rooms in plastic bags. Do not move them to other rooms to avoid spreading the infestation.

  8. 8

Plan to leave the home with your pets during treatment and for 4 to 6 hours afterward. Remove or cover aquariums.

Pro Tips

  • Use certified bed bug proof encasements for your mattresses and box springs after treatment — they trap remaining bugs and make future detection easier.
  • Keep clean clothes in sealed bags until treatment is complete and the technician confirms elimination.
  • Take photos of the infestation before preparation to help the technician assess the situation.
  • Start preparation the day before treatment to avoid rushing on the day of.
⚠️

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do NOT move furniture or items from infested rooms to other rooms — you risk spreading bed bugs throughout the home.
  • Do NOT apply pesticides yourself before professional treatment — this can scatter the bugs and reduce treatment effectiveness.
  • Do NOT throw out your mattress without consulting the technician first — in most cases, professional treatment is enough to sanitize it.

After Treatment

  • 1Do not clean baseboards and treated surfaces for at least 14 days — the product must remain active to eliminate bugs that hatch after treatment.
  • 2Continue sleeping in your regular bed — this attracts remaining bugs toward treated areas.
  • 3Regularly inspect mattress seams and bed frame for 3 weeks after treatment to detect any residual activity.
  • 4A second treatment is usually scheduled 2 to 3 weeks after the first. Do not cancel it even if you no longer see bed bugs.
