Insects
Earwig
The earwig is recognizable by the pincers at the rear of its body. Contrary to legend, it doesn't crawl into ears. It enters homes through cracks, especially in dry weather.

How to identify
Elongated reddish-brown insect with a pair of pincers (cerci) at the tip of the abdomen. Flattened body.
Typical habitat
Damp dark places: under pots, mulch, stones, in basements, bathrooms and around foundations.
Health risks
The earwig is harmless to humans: its pincers don't pierce skin and it transmits no diseases. However, it can damage plants and become a significant nuisance in large numbers.
